1. O Mother! Am I not an ignorant kid, and isn’t knowledge or understanding Your property? is it proper for You to be obstinate or angry towards me? won’t You speak cool words to me?

2. While there is no protector for me on the Earth, why do You remain unconcerned pretending as if You have not seen me? Instead of beseeching these envious people, I have become Your devotee; aren't You alone my refuge?

3. O Mother with auspicious face who bore me! I am eligible for the grace of Lord Sri Rama - Your elder brother; O Mother who abides in the heart of this Tyagaraja! I sought Your refuge straight-away.

[edit] Variations

  • 3mariyAdA – mariyAdA amba
  • 4brOcuvArilanu lEka - brOcuvArilanu lEka amba
  • 5Isu janula - I sujanula – In the present context it should be taken as Isu+janula’ (not ‘I+sujanula’) in order to arrive at any meaningful translation.

[edit] References

  • 1zrI pravRddhE – The tamizh name of Mother at this temple is 'peruntiruppirATTi'. Therefore, it seems 'zrI pravRddha' is the true translation of the Tamil name. Other names of Mother at this temple is 'zrImati' and 'mahA sampat gauri' – [Lalgudi] - For 'piLLaittamizh' of Mother - [piLLaittamizh]

[edit] Commentary

  • 2nidhimati – the word ‘mati’ is to be interpreted along with ‘nidhi’ like ‘zrIman’ ‘zrImati’. Otherwise, in the present, it does not make any sense all by itself.
