- 1kanulAra nA kAmitambu dIra - these words are found at the end of pallavi in one of the books.
- 2puTTina – puTTi : puTTina - seems to be more appropriate.
[edit] Commentary
- In one of the books, the following alternative Charana is also given.
bharata lakSmaNa zatrughnAnilaja Show DetailsbhAskarAtmajAja tanayAdulatO dharaNIzulu vibhISaNuDu koluva tattvamasiyanucu tyAgarAju pADa | As Bharata, Lakshmana, Satrughna, Anjaneya, Sugreeva (son of Son), Jambavan (son of Brahma), Vibhishana and many kings were serving Him, As Tyagaraja sang, "Thou art that", (I beheld Rama)! |
Here, the phrase ‘tattvamasiyanucu ... pADa’ is very intriguing. ‘tat-tvam-asi’ is not a Mantra which is recited; it is a teaching to the disciple by the preceptor about the nature of Self and the Brahman. When the disciple actually apprehends the truth, the statement would be ‘brahmaivAham’ - ‘aham brahmAsmi’ - ‘sOham’ - ‘haMsa’. In this case, Sri Thyagaraja stating that he sings ‘tattvamasi’ is not very convincing. Therefore, it is presumed that this charana has been superposed by someone misusing the Mudra of Sri Thyagaraja.
