Was my body too hard even for the snakes? I was wondering that it was for some other reason (that they could not kill me even after biting); is this the purpose for which I nurtured this body? 2. Or did they (snakes) pardon me (without biting) thinking that ‘why should we take the blame’? otherwise, this body is not of any value; it will not withstand (snake bite); is this the purpose for which the Lord has nurtured this body? 3. Even after seeing my success, (they) would not believe the God; is this the purpose for which He - the resplendent Lord – bestower of boons on Thyagaraja – has nurtured this body? |
[edit] Commentary
- This Kriti forms part of 'Prahlada Bhakti Vijayam' - In this Kriti is lamenting about his fate.
- 1andaru indukA – ‘andaru’ here means the divinities like Indra, Vayu, Agni etc who are considered to be responsible for the growth of the body from infant stage.
- 2tanuvu bellamu kAdu – This seems to be a colloquial usage – probably derived from a similar Tamizh usage - ‘uyir vellamalla’ – ‘life is of no value’. – bellam (jaggery) – Tamizh ‘vellam’. Please refer to site – [Bellam]
- 3nA jayamunu jUci – probably this refers to Prahlada surviving snake poision.
- 4nammarE dEvuni – the reference here is to Hiranya Kasipu who did not believe in the Lord.
