2. O Nourisher of Your devotees! Always having excessive craving for wealth due to evilsome desires for house, wife etc., cattle, children etc., that I should be associated with those 'naive' pretenders – is it for this that You created me?

3. O Bestower of Enjoyments! O Lord who is easily accessible to those who are dear to You! O Lord who bore the Mandara or Govardhana mountain! O Lord who relieves from the disease called Worldly Existence! O Lord praised by this Tyagaraja! won’t You look at me quickly and with much kindness with Your elongated eyes, O Indweller of the Sastras!

  • 1A parAtpara – the word ‘A’ translates to ‘That’. Sri Tyagaraja addresses Sri Rama as 'That' - Supreme Lord indicated by ‘tat’ in the mahAvAkya - ‘tat-tvam-asi’.
  • 2E dOsamu teliyani – In some books, this seems to have been translated as 'unaware of sins'. In view of the ensuing words 'vEsa dharula' (pretenders), this seems to be a sarcasm about people 'pretending to be naive'.
  • 4sOga kanulu – equivalent to Sanskrit ‘AyatAkSa’.
  • 5nannu – the ending word of this caraNa cannot be meaningfully connected to the pallavi.
