In order that everyone like – (maternal) uncle, sisters-in-law, younger brothers, parents, wife, servants – could come around to Your point of view, I wonder, in what manner You spoke understanding how each one’s mind is!

O Lord well-praised by this Thyagaraja! I wonder, in what manner, knowing how each one’s mind is, You spoke - some times with prudence and some times instilling fear, but always charmingly so that – the Kings, sages, celestials and asura, the blessed Lords of (eight) cardinal points, and the brave ones, Lord Siva – wearer of moon, the Sun – Lord of Day – would do your bidding!

[edit] Variations

  • 1talli-taNDrulu – tali-daNDrulu. Both forms are correct.
  • 2zUrulu – sUrulu
  • 3zazi – zaza

[edit] References

  • 4naya bhayamuga – There are many instances in Valmiki Ramayana where Sri Rama speaks nicely – to Sita – to Lakshmana – to Bharata – to Sugreeva et al. However, there is atleast one instance he speaks very angrily – to counter the arguments of sage Jabali who advocated Nastika Vaada to justify Sri Rama’s return to Ayodhya. Please refer to Ayodhya Kanda, Chapters 108 and 109.
